NEWSLETTER FOR THE CURIOUS PEOPLE WHO LIKE TO BUILD PROGRESS

ISSUE #41

No one is dumb who is curious. The people who don't ask questions remain clueless throughout their lives.

  PROGRESS

  • NOTION. We made big strides with Notion. All data that was previously stored in Excel is now transferred to Notion. TribeQa Notion is now fully structured around 9 databases - Components, Q&A, Publications, Contacts (CRM), Tasks, Business, Free Content, Quotes, and Bibliography. Around 100 pages and 500 database views draw their information from these databases.

  • LINKEDIN DISPATCH.I wrote two posts this week (see below). Most of the time the content rolls out of my pen like it is always a sunny Sunday morning. Most of them are first versions with a little editing - mostly grammar things. The two posts on SMART DUMBO were different. Struggling. And struggling means time. And time is ....

 SETBACKS

  • No setbacks this week.

 THINGS TO IMPROVE

  • SSIR. I need to start interacting more with like-minded people online. This week I will subscribe to Stanford Social Innovation Review (SSIR) and begin to comment on the articles. SSIR is the top-of-the-foodchain, so my comments need to be solid.

  • SHORTER POSTS. It would also be helpful to use the comments as the base for some shorter LinkedIn posts (500-600 words).

SMART DUMBO'S: FLEXIBLE THINKING IS KEY - P2  [#40]

GLORY OR TITANICIkoCiti is in the business of empowering the powerless. In part 1 of this post [here] , we made the case that people living the problems are the barrio experts who (collectively) know the ins and outs. Their knowledge is the foundation to break GenPoverty without implying that they have all the answers. Nobody does and that is why we collaborate.

For us, empowering the powerless is not a nice-sounding marketing campaign. It goes to the heart and soul of the venture. If - over time  - the people in the barrio structurally are not capable of producing a self-propelling system, then we perish slowly in irrelevance. We will never pivot to become some sort of sweet social enterprise running some caring little social program. That is just not us. Our ambition is to go GLOBAL BIG and if we Titanic, we Titanic. It is what it is. So, EVERYTHING WE STAND FOR rides on the assumption that the barrio – over time - can resurrect itself by the hands of its changemakers. If the people fail, we fail. This is a fundamentally different mindset compared to almost all social organizations - they prioritize their survival above all else.

LET'S TALK ABOUT SEX

TABOOSex is simple. You do it when feel like doing it or you don’t do it when you don’t feel the feel. No Biggie. But we all know that sex is a tricky topic of conversation in companies and social circles. Even between lovers, spouses, and friends it is tricky to be too honest about your sexual desires. There are so many taboos, hidden agendas, and sensitivities taking out much of the spontaneity which is an essential building block of good sex. Despite all the bullshit surrounding sex, people still have sex.

Bishakha Loskar was a teenager when she gave birth to her son in the early 1990s. A sex worker in east India’s Sonagachi, Asia’s largest red-light district, Loskar began menstruating abnormally a few months after giving birth and could not take on clients. Her illness prevented her from having enough money to buy milk for her baby or medicine for herself. She borrowed 5,000 Indian rupees ($61) from a private moneylender, unaware that she would have to pay five times the amount as interest over the unsecured loan.

KEY ISSUES

SHORT-TERM  [1 -4 WEEKS]

  • How do we effectively structure Notion? [eliminating Excel]

  • Which online communities (groups) deal predominantly with poverty solutions?

  • How do I free up time to spend more interacting online with impact people?

  • How do I get more effective with Twitter?

MID-TERM  [5 - 15 WEEKS]

  • How do we build an emotional connection with our audience?

  • How do we visualize IkoCiti?

  • Which tools do we need to produce awareness videos for IkoCiti?

  • How do we start selling IKOCITI T-shirts?

LONG-TERM  [16+ WEEKS]

  • What is the best way to formulate the business case?

  • How do we recruit a core unit of 3-4 co-founders?

  • How do we raise our first U$500.000?

IKOCITI ARCHITECTURE

CHAMBERS

The Caves are the homes for the Squads - the operational units - that run the platform as independent micro-ventures. When operational, there could be 100+ squads delivering work to the platform. Each district (quartier or zone) will have Caves in its territory.
